I survived my first year!

19 May

To blog or not to blog?

All signs have been pointing to me starting a blog lately… and I have finally given in!

Part of me thinks I really don’t need another distraction but another part of me thinks this might be a way to explore my creative side even further.

Let’s see how this new adventure unfolds, hope you will join me and share your own creative  journeys!

In the beginning…

I simply cannot believe a year has passed since I started Little Blossom Quilts. It started after huge encouragement from friends saying “you should sell your quilts”, so I jumped on board the facebook business train with very low expectations and voila! Little Blossom Quilts was born.

So many beautfiul fabrics have passed through my hands, so many special projects and gorgeous quilts. Many many challenges have presented themselves including fitting a towering stack of fabric tubs into an overcrowded lounge room. With much tolerance from my hubby of the “zzzz” “zzz” of the machine over the evening news I managed to slowly build up both my confidence and business name.

As a way of thanking all of the “fans” of Little Blossom Quilts I have decided to have a celebration whereby I will offer one lucky person a custom made cot quilt at 50% off (plus postage). This lucky person can also “jump the queue” and have their quilt made in July/August without having to secure a custom slot in the soon to be released August slots.

The bit you have been waiting for – how to enter!

All you need to do is comment on this blog post and tell me the most creative thing you have done in the last 12 months! Mine has without a doubt been starting Little Blossom Quilts.

Please make sure your name and email are included. The winner will be drawn by random.org and notified via this blog and email.

The competition closes Saturday 28th May!

Well since having my baby i started thinking about what skills i had to do something from home, and as a school teacher i had many ideas. I gave it a lot of thought and decided to go with making Nappy Cakes, as a new mum i have to say thst i was amazed by the nappy cak i recieved when i had Kayla and was really interested in creating my home. I havent turned it into a business but i use my creativity as a beautiful gift for any friends or family or friends of friends etc as i really look for the most beautiful decorations and gifts to add to my nappy cakes and coule never put a price on them to sell and feel as gving them as gifts makes it all the more special, especially when i see the joy on the face of the loved one recieving it.

The most creative thing I have done in the last yr is start knitting a scarf for my 23 mth old little boy. I know its all relative & we’re gifted in different areas, but this is very creative for me.

My most creative things I’ve been doing this year would be teaching myself to sew and starting to branch out and create my own patterns, I’m hoping to start my own business in the next few months.
I’ve also been cooking, trying new methods of baking and decorating and am about to try and make macaroons. And also starting to plan my daughters 4th birthday, designing a dessert buffeet etc etc.
I’ve been keeping very busy. LOL

I’ve just started a wall hanging of a not so hungry, but extremely fat caterpillar 😉 It is for my next to be born neice/nephew due in july. I’ve picked all of the colours out of the new little ones nursery and plan to mount their name with MDF letters so they stand out of the 5 pieces which will span the width of the nursery wall. It is my first go at something creative so *Fingers crossed* It all goes well!! So far so good!!

Wow… I keep thinking Ive missed the crativity in my family – who all knit, sew, paint and draw… Ive managed to make a few hairclips for my darling daughter (who keeps losing all the lovely ones I bought for her), like some of the Mums above – have managed to add a little personality to my 2 gorgeous childrens bedrooms (with big thanks to LBQ for the inspiration and colour!).. but I think the greatest creativity for the past 12 months has been coming up with new ways to juggle the babes, hubby, home, work and a business without dropping one… creative alright!
Good luck with the blog Victoria – it looks really cute!

The most creative thing I have done in the past year…that is a hard one for me as I am so not creative ~ I ordered a quilt from LBQ’s…does that count? Oh I started making dummy ribbons with my eldest daughter, not to sell just for fun and to keep track of the babies dummy!

    • littleblossomquilts May 26, 2011 at 8:23 am #

awwww Rach!!!! Yes dummy clips count 🙂 most of the creative women I know have started out of necessity!

My most creative project this year, was to finally complete the quilt kit I purchase for my daughter for her birthday. Well her birthday has been (in April), and I am nearly finished, just got the binding to go. So she will have her quilt when she is 6 years and 2 months!!! Now to get started on my twin daughters first quilts! (They will be 4 in October) Oh, and my husband and I have decided to expand our home business and go ‘down the main street’. Hope to start trading by July. Busy times!

Jayne- that is so lovely, what a sense of achievement! My poor kids are still waiting patiently for their quilts- oh dear. Are you willing to share piccies? I love to see what other people are quilting 🙂

I’m always dabbling in different things but I’ve just started making baby/toddler hairclips and in under a week already have 48 likers!! I’m hoping to start up a stall at the local mumma’s market and sell some products so I can continue making my lovely little designs. I love your quilts and love that it is something different and so specialised!! Good luck!

The most creative thing for me is becoming a mother within 10 months of marriage in a teeny tiny flat on the fourth floor with no lift!! Much creativity with time, energy and space ensued Designing custom MCN’s ,getting my first sewing machine, (at 30) learning to cook and SING again has made this the most amazing and creative past year. I won’t even start on creativity with an unplanned stint on one income!!

    • littleblossomquilts May 26, 2011 at 8:26 am #

That is pretty incredible Alison- love that you only just started sewing but are now making custom mcn’s. and singing- now I am really envious of that- I love to sing but sound rather like a strangled cat when I do 🙂

The most creative thing I have done in the past year is start sewing. I haven’t sewn since highschool (10 years ago) and even then I was never any good lol A dodgy apron here and a skewiff pillow there. In the past year I have sewn a small quilt for my second daughter, a mini mei tai and a horrible attempt at a dress. I have fixed my clothes, my husbands clothes, my mums clothes and my daughters clothes. And have thoroughly enjoyed it. Love being creative. Even if I’m not very good at it!

    • littleblossomquilts May 26, 2011 at 8:27 am #

That is so true- sometimes it isnt the end result but the process which is so important

Hmmm the most creative thing I have done in the last year would be……..making a human being. That’s creating something right lol? 🙂

The most creative thing I have done in the last year would be starting my business with my girlfriend ‘Cutie Bambootie’ We started and launched the busines a couple of weeks before i was due to have my 3rd little girl. Our first market have a few days after she was born. Having 3 Girls is tough but rewarding, but I wanted that stimulation that you just don’t get with children – so Cutie Bambootie was born! I wouldn’t change anything and love the challenges each day brings ❤

    • littleblossomquilts May 21, 2011 at 6:33 pm #

The challenge makes it worth it doesn’t it?

      • Amanda May 21, 2011 at 10:25 pm #

Yes it does – So worth it 🙂

After 4 house moves since 2007, and with (thank God) no move on the horizon until 2014, I decided to ditch the tired old brown couches and mismatched furniture and try and find my OWN style in interior decorating skills.

Now if only I can learn to re-upholster the sofa bed in Ikea fabric…that WOULD be creative!

Ok so I’m not at all creative! I have been getting creative in the kitchen? Actually baking, who would have thought u could make biscuits and muffins without a packet?? 😮 creating meals with hidden veggies for my two monsters to actually eat!
Creating new bedrooms for said monsters, one of which has just moved into a ‘big boys bed’!!
I think I have been to busy ‘creating’ a new little life inside me to be creative anywhere else!!

The most creative thing I’ve done this past year is to start my own business! Having my baby boy and discovering my employer, like many others, was not so flexible about work hours 😦 I decided to freelance my skills as a make-up artist and Miss Violet Make-Up Artistry was born! I have also branched out into face painting and am in the process of starting up another facebook business selling custom made dolls/softies; after being given my first sewing machine for xmas I have now discovered another creative outlet and passion :). All in all, quite possibly my most creative year yet!! ♥

    • littleblossomquilts May 20, 2011 at 7:13 pm #

Although un-flexible employers are not on my list of favourite things, I love that you triumphed and got creative, would love you to leave your facebook links for me!
